How can they send troops for "non-combat roles", when they're going to be Americans gathering intelligence and locating IS targets? Now, I would think that if any Americans are over in that region, they're going to be targets, so their role as "non-combat" seems like complete BS. If they get caught by IS militants or run into IS militants on the battlefield, they are going to be in combat. They will be captured or shot at. So, I would hope they are heavily armed. I can see an undercover role, by our CIA officers that are from the region and blend in. But, white/black Americans will stand out like a sore thumb.

One more stupid person that's not getting it. There is no military option in the middle east. US will never turn the middle east into Wally World. Why all of this BS obsession with what kind of civil or religious wars that has been going on for centuries? So keep the IOUs going and fill the national cemeteries so one day we can honor one more wasted battle. Then the US can tell its country to support your troops and again pander to their defeat.
